Early on, I learned the hard way how quickly value can disappear in construction, not because the work wasn’t real, but because the contract, notices, and commercial process didn’t protect it.
Variations went unpaid.
Dayworks were argued.

And like most subcontractors, I was expected to just “sort it out later.”
That frustration is what pushed me to understand the system behind it.
I went on to study construction law and spent the next 20+ years inside main contracting and Tier-1 environments, as a Commercial Manager, Managing Director, and Group Commercial Director.
I wasn’t advising from the sidelines. I was responsible for enforcing contracts, protecting entitlement, managing risk, and making sure businesses got paid properly.
